He who knows the supreme Truth is not touched by virtue and sin. Though smoke is seen to be spreading over it, the sky has no connection with it.
Even for the Self-realized, the Knower, life will continue as usual as long as embodiment lasts. And the senses will interact with the objects around, all the usual effects following in sequence. Then what is the difference? He knows well that all his interactions and their outcomes are truly inner, like bubbles in the spiritual expanse within.
He always knows he is the Self, pure Consciousness, all-pervading. All the interactions and consequences are solely inner, where there is no solidity or grossness possible. No object touches him, nor does the seeming consequence taint him. It is like smoke rising and spreading over the sky. But it does not touch the sky.
Even more unaffected is the nature of the expansive Self. Let the interactions be on, let their seeming effects also be. All these are external, in the gross phenomena. But his experience is inner, in the mind and intelligence alone. There how can grossness penetrate, or solidity prevail and taint?
The whole phenomena of the entire Universe are but a mere display, like the magician’s show on the stage.
The Knower is asaṅgī, un-associated, un-touched, un-attached, un-involved, free and translucent. The effectiveness and success of the Knower consist in making this knowledge generate adequate stability, poise and harmony.
