Who can contradict or prevent the great soul, who has known the whole world to be the Self alone, and has a life led by Chance?
In all this, Sage Ashtavakra explains how a Self-realized person lives and moves in the world, without resorting to exclusive, austere solitude. Self-realization is meant to enable and empower one with such inner qualitative refinement that he can live, move and act in the world imbued with a measure of benevolence. Knower’s being becomes purer and more expansive every time. He thinks and acts for society’s welfare with deeper involvement.
Knower’s mission is loka-saṅgraha. His presence and interaction have marvellous effect in making people drop their evil tendencies and imbibe goodness and benevolence. Knower can take up any societal pursuits, knowledge dissemination or service.
Some Knowers may keep away from excessive interactions with people, to remain focussed in the Self and its magnificence. But the Knower can harness his inner resources to help and lead the society in very crucial matters of thoughts, values and ideals. The fact that the Knower imbibes tremendous skill and ability to do whatever he wishes should be properly evaluated and appreciated.
Maharshi Ashtavakra says that none, either society or the Scriptures, can set limits to the Knower in what he chooses to do to benefit the society. This does not, however, mean that the Knowers will indulge in wrong ways. Spiritual pursuit is such as to redress all harmful traits much before one becomes a Knower. It is first and last self-reforming and self-refining.
