Free from delusional fondness for son, wife, etc., desireless towards world objects, free of concern even about his own body, freed from all expectation, he lives in his own splendour.
Every one should know that spiritual science and practice are meant for all, no matter what station of life one is in – celibacy, household, vānaprastha (anchorite) or sannyasa, renunciation. The qualities, virtues and enrichments spirituality bestows equally benefit all, in pursuing their life with greater meaning, depth, benevolence and satisfaction. It is wrong to think that spirituality is meant only for ascetics. Ascetic pursuit has its exaltation, no doubt!
Was not Krishna a householder; Arjuna too? Kurukshetra dialogue was meant for Arjuna. There also Krishna, while listing twenty virtues as constituting full spiritual wisdom, includes non-clinging-ness to son, wife, etc. (13.9 ). Here too the Sage says the Knower has no delusional fondness for son, wife, etc. So, it is possible for one to live in the household with spiritual enlightenment. Krishna and Arjuna, in fact, represent such an enlightened life. Sage Vasishtha also illustrates it extremely well.
Knower has no desire or expectation with regard to objects of the world. All objects are inert, senses too. How can they give any satisfaction? Joy is always produced by the mind, like other emotions. Spiritual science focusses its efforts on the mind directly, through intelligence, purifies it, until at last the blissful Self radiates joy constantly. Enraptured by it, the Knower is unconcerned about his body. Enjoying the ecstasy of desire-freeness, he dazzles and sparkles exemplarily.
