Seeing, hearing, touching, smelling, eating, taking, speaking, walking, the great soul, free of all actions and non-actions, is liberated indeed.
Activity is indispensable in life. As long as food nourishes the body, one has to be active. But active involvement inevitably brings sufferings and bondage. Spiritual wisdom intends to deal with these, making life comfortable, harmonious and fulfilling.
Seekers tend to feel that spiritual wisdom means dropping all active involvements and being focussed in meditation. They know only to do and get bound or not to do at all!
True spiritual wisdom aims to dissolve the conflict and load, making the mind and intelligence flexible and harmonious to live with enthusiasm, fervour and purpose. In the name of spiritual attainment, to abandon activity and involvement is disharmonious. Krishna makes it amply clear in Gita (3.4 ).
Enlightenment graces the intelligence and enriches and empowers the mind sufficiently to keep the Knower active and interactive, without getting smitten by undue agony and bondage.
Sage Ashtavakra again points that the great soul of spiritual wisdom will always live and move like ordinary people seeing, hearing, smelling, touching, eating, taking, speaking and walking with inner freedom and relaxation. He will have no motivation to gain anything or to get away from anything. Just like air enters the lungs and exits, activity and interaction will be co-existential with him, without causing undue tension and bondage – a wonderful state of equanimity, inner poise and undisturbed fullness!
