In you the singular, immutable, peaceful, immaculate sentient space, Consciousness, from where comes birth, whence is activity, and whence is even ego?

Commentary by Swami Bhoomananda Tirtha

The moment you take to spiritual truthful introspection, manana, ordinary ideas and standards will drop. You will begin to live and move in the higher spiritual plane. Thoughts will be more in terms of the Self and its qualities. Self is singular, changeless. It is cid-ākāśa, sentient space. Rumination over these qualities transforms one’s very being. Thoughts, feelings and emotions do have the power to refine themselves. The devout seeker begins to love all. Selfishness drops in him and universalness dawns.

Bodily thoughts and concerns will have lesser and lesser relevance. Thus you will feel you have had no birth. Body’s birth is not your birth. The difference is like that of fire and water. Body will die, but not the ‘I’, the Self. As body is perishable, so the Self is imperishable. As body moves and acts, the Self is still and non-acting. Actional consequences like sin and virtue lose their bearing on the Knower.

Ego-centric feelings and notions also begin to fall. Thought of doership not being there, results also will not pester him. As body and bodily thoughts dominated the mind earlier, now thoughts and evaluations of the Self become pronounced. Consequently worldliness declines, and spiritualness and Selfness shine. Freedom, joy and fullness of the Self radiate without hindrance.
