Whatever you look at, there you alone are displayed as the non-dual. Do bracelet, armlet and anklet shine different from gold they are made of?
All along Ashtavakra Maharshi speaks about the Singular Self proving that nought exists besides it. He wants king Janaka as well as all others to understand this truth and strive to realize it wholeheartedly, without hesitation or delay. Right from the beginning, the true seeker should reflect upon the supreme Truth, not the least any variation or diluted form of it.
Life is an interaction between the singular Subject Self and the seeming manifold objects. In this it has been shown from various angles that the manifold, though perceived, is merely illusory. The power of the singular Self alone displays it as a super-imposition. In a state of delusion, anything may appear to be. But on scrutiny, it will cease to be. We cannot accept all that appears. What really is, is a matter of enquiry and finding of our intelligence.
In our interactions, gross, external objects being illusory, the only true existence is the Subject, the Self. Whatever perceived is no separate, outer object, gross and solid. It is but the Self itself, which brings the illusory ‘objectude’. The Knower realizes this clearly. He sees the Self alone everywhere and always.
It is like seeing gold alone, not the least a different material, in the various ornaments made of gold. Do the formed articles have any content or material in them besides gold? In the same way, in all our perceptions, there is nothing besides the perceiving Self, the witness of the whole universe! What a great revelation!
