Ashtavakra Gita 7.2 -

मय्यनन्तमहाम्भोधौ जगद्वीचि: स्वभावत: ।
उदेतु वास्तमायातु न मे वृद्धिर्न च क्षति:

mayy-ananta-mahāmbhodhau jagad-vīciḥ svabhāvataḥ .
udetu vāstamāyātu na me vṛddhir-na ca kṣatiḥ .. 7-2..

In me the infinite ocean, let the waves of the universe naturally emerge or set. For me there is neither increase nor reduction.

Commentary by Swami Bhoomananda Tirtha

One is not born of his volition. He comes to know of his birth from others, as he grows. Like birth and death, many other courses, plights and fates, take place upon our Earth. Altogether, they are like the ceaseless waves in the ocean.

Waves rise, travel, after a time cease, like sun rising and setting. As long as wind blows, waves also will be.

By countless waves rising, is there any addition to the sea? In the Self-ocean also, no addition or reduction takes place by thoughts, emotions, memory, knowledge, reason and many other inner creations arising and subsiding throughout wakefulness. None of these causes any addition or enhancement to the Self-expanse. By its extinction also no reduction or loss transpires. Self remains full and all-pervading without the least disturbance.

Nothing happens to the Knower. Nothing goes from him or comes into him any time. He remains ever the same, in measure as well as quality, addition-less and reduction-less.

This makes him totally unaffected in every way. By seeing colours do eyes become colourful? By the inner processes in the sentient Self, nothing happens to its nature or permeation. Realization of this truth makes the Knower stable, contented, harmonious and flexible. He is able to assimilate all kinds of responses and reactions with ease and poise. He becomes a sthita-prajña, a sthitadhee, as Krishna describes in Bhagavad Gita so beautifully.
