Ashtavakra Gita 18.21 -

Any extent of description and explanation will not be an excess in describing the nature of a Self-realized person. So the Sage brings one illustration after another to depict how the Knower, liberated from the shackles of mind and intelligence, lives in the world comfortably and effortlessly. All perform activities, ceaselessly. But the manner in which each does, makes all the difference.

Activities and interactions are ‘physical’, but the tension they bring about is inner, mental. Only by inner refinement and sublimation, the plight can be redressed. Spiritual pursuit is meant solely to enrich and empower the mind to act freely and resourcefully without excessive tension. Undue expectation is the main cause for tension. Spiritual enlightenment and the clarity it bestows will alone help one to have a tension-free mind.

Knower understands that every one is led by the cultural inheritance from birth. Whatever he learns and knows, can only add to this inheritance, enriching it effectively. Acquisition cannot totally alter inheritance. It can reform and refine it. That is all.

Thus, the Knower frees himself from desires, drops all dependences and expectations, becomes clear and light at heart, and moves, meeting everything that comes. He knows he is like a dry leaf carried by the wind of cultural inheritance, and hence finds harmony everywhere and in everything, an ease and effectiveness others fully miss! It makes him contented, confident and fervent.
