The body encased/comprehended by Nature’s three guṇas comes in, prevails and goes away. The Self comes not and goes not. Why then grieve at this?
The whole creation, including our personality, is a display of Nature’s three guṇas. Sattva-guṇa represents brilliance and wisdom. Rajo-guṇa denotes activities and their causes. And tamo-guṇa signifies lethargy, ignorance and delusion. These together originate, govern and dissolve all objects, big or small.
Human body is a product of Nature’s guṇas. Like many other things, our body also comes at a time, lasts for a while and then falls. We have been pointing all along that oneself is not the born body. Body is a mass of matter, with no power to feel, know and express knowledge. Naturally, it cannot be you. The living presence is different. Being not born, like the body, it does not fall.
You being not the transient body, why grieve about it any time? Body was born, because Nature provides for conception, the growth and delivery of the foetus. When the umbilical cord is cut, the child is able to breathe and live by himself. At every point, Nature alone designs, institutes and preserves every development. All that we feel, think, do, plan and execute is because Nature has meant them to be.
Leave it all to Nature’s own sequence. You are different from the body, which is but inert, insentient. Nature’s orders and sequences act only on the body, which you are not. So outlive all your grief revolving around the born body and its prevalence. Be wise. Be indifferent and jubilant.
