You are that, no doubt, wherein this universe shines like waves in sea. You are Consciousness embodied. Be free of worldliness-fever.
Sage Ashtavakra is himself doing the truthful introspection, manana, making the process easier for seekers. Taking one quality after another, the Sage develops a reasoning to converge on the Self. Thereby the mind is engrossed in such thoughts as will take you closer to the Self.
Generally people think the mind is hard, like rock. They refuse to think of any qualitative enrichment for the mind. The solid earth is constricted, but the water it hosts is permeating. How extensive are the seas! Air is even more so. The fifth constituent, space, is appalling in its subtlety, expanse and permeation.
But none likens the mind with water, air and space, thereby denying its flexibility and permeation. Each prefers to think the mind is rigid. Knowledge that mind is pervading the whole body, constituted by pañca-bhūtas, raises the mind’s status from the entire creation, expanding its permeation. Delusion and constriction in this behalf should drop instantly. Think of the mind as immensely flexible, permeating and infinite in every way. How does it reflect and reveal the whole universe!
Do not doubt, says the Sage; you are that presence, in which shines the universe. You are not material or energial. You are no substance. You are sovereign, supreme. Yes, you are the cin-mūrti, Consciousness embodied. Let the fever of world subside for ever. Be free, unconcerned, luminous and permeating!
