sarva-bhūteṣu cātmānaṃ sarva-bhūtāni cātmani .
vijñāya nirahaṅkāro nirmamas-tvaṃ sukhī bhava .. 15-6..

Knowing well the Self as present in all, and all beings as in the Self, free of ego and possessiveness, be happy, comfortable.

Commentary by Swami Bhoomananda Tirtha

Neither happiness nor unhappiness is physical, bodily or sensory. It is experiential, emotional, inner and mental. Remember this always.

Our senses alone cause plurality and differences. Thus, there are many bodies around us, including one’s own. But is anyone the body? Every one says ‘I am’, ‘I was’. This ‘I’ is not the body. One refers to the body as ‘mine’. ‘My body is weak’, this is how each refers to the plight. The ‘I’, compared to the body, is inner, internal. As an inner presence, it is in every one. That is why every one feels and says ‘I am’. If thus the ‘I’ is in all alike, is it not a universal presence?

Likewise, you see your body with your eyes. Similarly, you also see other bodies, with no difference. The same applies to touch, smell, etc. So, everything for you is an inner experience. The world too is only an inner experience. Hence, are not the world and all its objects within you, the Self? Are not all beings in your own within? Remember this truth, be confirmed in it, and rejoice over the finding. Let the truth, the freedom it bestows, the comfort that follows, be visibly there. Make no concealment at all.

Once all that you see, hear, smell, etc. are inner, within the body, in the very Self, where can be greed or hate? Will not the mind become universal, placid, even, gentle and amiable?
