O enlightened one, enjoy sensory delights, work hard or practise samadhi. Even then your mind will be yearning for experiencing the blissful Self, leaving all desires and the havoc they fetch.
See how the Sage inculcates the deeper thought process in the seeker. Spiritual pursuit is all through wisdom. It is to cultivate viveka and vairagya. Yes, the seeker must excel in discrimination. Viveka should equally instil greater and greater dispassion. Once the two fill the mind, it is ready to be overwhelmingly free.
Allow the mind to think freely, boldly, confidently. Maharshi exhorts: Enjoy the world lavishly, ceaselessly. Eat, see, hear, smell and touch, again and again. Act, interact in multiple ways. Or practise meditation too intensely, enjoying stillness and absorption, samadhi. Even then what?
None of these can endure at all. It is like being wakeful for hours, only to be tired and exhausted, wanting desperately to withdraw and lie asleep. Waking state exertion only drives you to the lonely Self-restingness. Is samadhi anything more? Will it not break, pushing you to wakeful exhaustion again?
The Sage disposes of enjoyment, activity and even inner absorption as undesirable. All fleet off, causing exertion and exhaustion.
On the other hand, to rest on the Self implies only relaxation and fullness. Leave all desires. Do not court the least distraction. Let the mind rest in the Self, reflecting and radiating its spiritual radiance. Yes, this inner inundation, immersion, is the most refreshing, invigorating!
