Ashtavakra Gita 6.3 -

अहं स शुक्तिसङ्काशो रूप्यवद्विश्वकल्पना ।
इति ज्ञानं तथैतस्य न त्यागो न ग्रहो लय:

ahaṃ sa śukti-saṅkāśo rūpyavad-viśva-kalpanā .
iti jñānaṃ tathaitasya na tyāgo na graho layaḥ .. 6-3..

I am the mother of pearl, reflecting the universe in me. The world is but the imagined silver in me. This is my knowledge. Where does leaving, accepting or dissolving arise? Can one do anything about an unreal presence, a mere superimposition?

Commentary by Swami Bhoomananda Tirtha

Traditional illustration of the mother of pearl and silver, like rope and snake, is a fond simile of Vedantic exponents. So, Janaka brings again the appearance of rūpya (silver) on śukti (shell), to drive home the proposition that the true seeker cannot think of eschewing something that exists not. If the silver were present, then the onlooker can pick or leave it. But it has never come to be at all. Lack of examination results in wrong perception. What is called for is a correction in perception, not anything else.

Spirituality is relentless in its pursuit of wisdom. As are the senses supreme in their field of perception, so is Vedantic intelligence in its hunt for knowledge and the resultant findings. One is sensory, external and gross. The other is internal, subtle and sentient.

All gross existences are a product of invisible atoms. Their grossness is thus a misnomer. Existence of atoms, invisible any time, is the sole basis for modern science and technology. Scientists work unshakeably on this premise, as on the findings of senses in the visible world. Can we deny the intelligence and its findings?

Here too the same intelligence is at work. Admit the fictitious nature of the world. What really exists is only pure Consciousness. The rest is all its own illusory display on itself, like dream in sleep. Hence no acceptance, rejection or dissolution is called for.
