Ashtavakra Gita 5.4 -

Samatva or equalness is the sole content and message of spirituality. The question is solely of understanding, absorbing and actualizing it. Maharshi Ashtavakra points again the evenness of the mind to be the way for attaining inner dissolution.

Sukha and duḥkha are the only two resultants of our interactions with persons, places and events, which constitute our life. Despite the nature of interactions, they bring only happiness and unhappiness to the mind. Self being different from the body, mind, intelligence and ego, sukha-duḥkhas do not touch or taint it the least. That is how every one says “I am happy, I am unhappy”. meaning the ‘I’ endures alike in happiness and unhappiness.

Likewise, in all other dvandvas as well, the Self remains the same. So be even in desire or despair. Apply the same truth to all other dvandvas as well, which constitute the world. Include life and death also. Be even in both. Understanding Self as the sole witness of all experiences and knowledge throughout life and interactions, be even towards life and its termination as well.

The body alone was born, and body alone will die. This does not involve the Self at all. So, be even in life and death. This way, dissolve all multiple ideas and ideations into the single wholeness of the Self. And float in that oneness and the interminable ecstasy it engenders. What a relaxation, lightness and ease!
