Seeing the universe as a mere illusory display, having lost all interest and yearning, how does one of true wisdom fear even if death is proximate?
Spiritual wisdom works in the mind and intelligence. Intelligence knows clearly that though the senses seemingly interact with the objects, the interactional experience is solely inner, in the level of the mind. Mind not being material or physical, sensory experiences also have verily no physical note.
When you see an elephant, it does not enter your mind, nor the mind goes to the elephant. The interaction is truly inner and mental. The interactional process is only by the mind with its own imprint. This is the truth about the entire world too.
The world, a mental imprint, cannot be physical and gross. Everything is notional. World is only notionally present as waves in the mind expanse. If this is clear, birth and death lose their relevance. Death of the body is, like all preceding transitions, the last. That is all. Why the wise fear it at all? Self, the ‘I’, alone is real. All the rest is a sheer inner display.
Realization of the Self, coupled with the knowledge that all else is but illusory, empowers the seeker to be fearless about everything in the world, and the world as a whole.
Like desire and hatred, fear also becomes extinct. As Krishna states in Bhagavad Gita (4.10 ), one transcends the triple urges of attraction, repulsion and fear, floating in the ecstasy of inner spiritual freedom.
