Ashtavakra Gita 18.47 -

It is wrong to think that to realize the Self one has to leave all activities and associations. World is the only place for every one to live. Anything good and benevolent is to be attained here upon the earth while living itself. Even striving for Self-realization has to be done here alone. World facilitates it. Looking at the world alone, our intelligence learns it is fleeting and seeks the eternal Self. So, do not blame the world and senses. What the seeker needs is the right employment of the mind and intelligence to cultivate viveka and vairagya, discrimination and dispassion. This is a wholesome mento-intellectual pursuit.

Think and introspect well. Get rid of all your doubts and indecision. Let the mind be clear about the changeless, eternal nature of the Self, and be identified with that knowledge. This clarity and definiteness are the one to shape the spiritual effort decisively.

As Krishna states in Gita, yoga, the science of Self-realization, is not for one who over indulges in sensory world. On the other hand, it is for one who is moderate in all that he seeks and does – in food, recreation, activity, sleep and wakefulness. Moderation is the watchword in spiritual pursuit (Gita 6.17 ).

Mind is not physical. It is not coupled to the senses or objects. To begin with, it is deluded. When rightly guided, it will be pure, sublime, placid and self-delightful too. Make no mistake in this. Let the mind be pure and intelligence rightly illumined!
