Ashtavakra Gita 18.29 -

यस्यान्त: स्यादहङ्कारो न करोति करोति स: ।
निरहङ्कारधीरेण न किञ्चिदकृतं कृतम्

yasyāntaḥ syād-ahaṅkāro na karoti karoti saḥ .
nirahaṅkāra-dhīreṇa na kiñcid-akṛtaṃ kṛtam .. 18-29..

In whose inside dwells ego, even if he is not doing anything, he verily does. On the other hand, the wise one, free of the hold of ego, even while acting, does not do anything at all.

Commentary by Swami Bhoomananda Tirtha

To think, reflect upon and realize the Self within, is to make our understanding greater and higher, so that this understanding soars above ego. Mind, intelligence and ego constitute inner personality. When the seeker goes beyond ego, whatever transpires in the mind-intelligence-ego planes does not touch him.

All actions are taking place only in these three levels. As the Knower has risen above the ego and dwells in the transcendental state, there is no question of his getting subjected to any kind of activity triggered by the mind, intelligence and ego. He is free from ego itself. Action becomes relevant, only as long as the ego works in the seeker. Once it drops, one transcends it, no activity becomes relevant to him. To attribute activity, there should be the ego.

Think about the matter from another angle, which has been emphasized earlier. In the subjective subtle impersonal Self, there cannot be any gross, solid objects from the visible world. Entire world, perceived by the mind, is but notional. In other words, it is a sheer imagination.

Can an imaginary product involve the Knower to cause bondage and make him yearn for liberation? Instead, the Knower enjoys absolute freedom, because of his unshakeable identity with Brahman, namely the Self. He verily becomes the Self, as the Upanishads declare and assure!
