Ashtavakra Gita 12.4 -

हेयोपादेयविरहादेवं हर्षविषादयो:
अभावादद्य हे ब्रह्मन्नेवमेवाहमास्थित:

heyopādeya-virahād evaṃ harṣa-viṣādayoḥ .
abhāvād-adya he brahmann-evam-evāham-āsthitaḥ .. 12-4..

Finding nothing to reject or accept, likewise joy and grief also having become extinct, O Brahman, I am poised patiently in myself.

Commentary by Swami Bhoomananda Tirtha

Our life, being experiential, thrives on dual considerations called dvandvas, pairs of opposites. Like and dislike, expectation and non-expectation, help and hindrance, sin and virtue, all fall in the broad category dvandvas. We go on choosing one of each, and hence dislike and reject the other.

This is to virtually divide existence and experience. Neither true existence nor Consciousness allows such division. We sleep for about 7 hours, remain awake for 17 hours. Consciousness, singular and undivided in sleep, cannot be different in waking!

The seeker given to reflect and radiate Consciousness, naturally will not court any divisive outlook. Likes and dislikes, preference and prejudice, acceptance and rejection fall from his mind. Once this takes place, he becomes steady, poised and stable, seated in Consciousness, the Self. There will be no scope for any undulations or vacillations.

It is a wonderful state of redemption, restfulness and spiritual abundance. As the mind thrives on divisions, to suffer and get diminished variously, so, when it renounces differentiation, it will float in the singular expanse of Consciousness. This is the fruition and fulfilment, the seeker always longs for and cherishes to realize. To swim freely in the ecstasy of Self, whether it is day or night, being awake, active or restful. To dissolve all differences and be in the indivisible Pure Consciousness.
