Chapter 11, Verse 2
Order Now

Ashtavakra Gita 11.2 -

ईश्वर: सर्वनिर्माता नेहान्य इति निश्चयी ।
अन्तर्गलितसर्वाश: शान्त: क्वापि न सज्जते

īśvaraḥ sarva-nirmātā nehānya iti niścayī .
antar-galita-sarvāśaḥ śāntaḥ kvāpi na sajjate .. 11-2..

God is the sole creator of all, and none else here. Thinking and resolving like this, all desires of the heart having fallen off, one becomes quiescent, without getting attached to anything.

Commentary by Swami Bhoomananda Tirtha

Our life is fully experiential. All we see and interact with is based on our experiences. We feel and say ‘I am’. Likewise we also feel we have a body with five senses, through which alone we perceive the world, which is what our senses make.

All experiences are based upon our wakefulness, sleep and dream. But wakeful objects, including pañca-bhūtas, gross and huge, give us the impression that they are independent. Our senses only see and interact with them. That our mind and senses alone make them, does not occur to us, nor is it acceptable.

But think about the dream state, wherein the sleeper alone displays all the objects independently. The mind alone creates them. Dream world relates only to the individual sleeper. In creating it, he is not helped by any external factor. That Consciousness has the power to create, cannot be doubted at all.

The Self itself is Brahman, the supreme Reality and God. The three are synonymous. Dream world resembles the waking, in all aspects, proving the power of creation of Consciousness. Thus, God, as Self, is the sole creator of everything, including wakeful objects. There is no question of any other in the matter. God brings the world, manages it and destroys it. Creation, preservation and dissolution are simultaneous functions. With this knowledge, desire not anything. Cling not to anything. Be free and relaxed!
