Let Lord Hara (Shiva) be your spiritual Instructor, or Lord Hari (Mahavishnu) or even Brahma, the lotus-born. Even then you will not have the quietitude of the Soul unless you are able to forget everything totally.
What a sweeping statement! But Sage Ashtavakra makes this and many more similar revelations, in his zest to drive home the unique sublimity of spiritual realization, wherein the mind becomes exclusively sublime and full.
Among spiritual instructors, the topmost would be Lord Shiva, Lord Mahavishnu and Lord Brahma, the great Trinity. Even if the seeker has been able to get instructions from them, what? Is the ultimate yardstick the Guru you have or the enlightenment and freedom he has instructed you on, which you have achieved?
When does the seeker gain true enlightenment? When the mind is habitually still and poised. The intelligence too has to be clear and un-flickering. Guru’s role is to eliminate from your mind all kinds of desire and delusion, so that you will feel for certain that you are the imperishable Self, blissful and abundant in every way.
Once you know the Self is sovereign and you are the Self, then will you not be sovereign yourself? Then why foster dependence or desire at all? Eschew everything and all. You need nothing. Nothing can increase or decrease you. Remain full, absolute and sovereign. Go wherever you wish, do whatever you will. You have nothing to gain or lose, possess or dispossess. Leave and forget all. Be immersed in your own natural plenty.
