Ashtavakra Gita 20.9 -

क्व विक्षेप: क्व चैकाग्र्यं क्व निर्बोध: क्व मूढता ।
क्व हर्ष: क्व विषादो वा सर्वदा निष्क्रियस्य मे

kva vikṣepaḥ kva caikāgryaṃ kva nirbodhaḥ kva mūḍhatā .
kva harṣaḥ kva viṣādo vā sarvadā niṣkriyasya me .. 20-9..

For me, always a non-doer, where is distraction and where is concentric absorption, where is fullness of knowledge and where is delusion? Where is joy and where is grief?

Commentary by Swami Bhoomananda Tirtha

Nishkriya means non-actor. How does nishkriyatva become true of a Knower, who always lives and moves like others do, but dwelling in his own inward Self? The point has been explained earlier too. This is the fact, nay truth, about every one. Our personality is not complete only with the biological body and all that constitute it. The inert body is animated and activated by the spirit, Consciousness, which, subtler than space, is omnipresent. Can it be active? Action implies movement, needing free space for the acting medium to move, enabling displacement of the base. In the omnipresent Self, such a movement is unimaginable.

Think now, whether you are the inert body, or you only have the body. Are you not the ‘I’, and not the mind, intelligence and ego? What is beyond the ego is instantly omnipresent. And it cannot act, nor be involved in actions of the body, mind and intelligence either. Knower is conscious of and lives in this truth. He is not a non-actor out of his option or effort. He, like everyone else, is the non-acting Consciousness. What prevents you from looking into yourself and going beyond the ego to realize that in your inmost level you are non-acting by your very nature?

For one dwelling in that stillness of beatitude, how can any process like absorption and distraction, knowledge and delusion, be? As Krishna says in Gita, it transcends the three guṇas, which cause activities (14.19,22 ). It is the guṇātīta centre!
