For the ascetic Knower who sees the imperishable Self, which is free from grief, where is knowledge, where is universe, where is body as ‘I’ or ‘mine’?
Self is only to be known, not approached, reached. And the knowledge will have lightning effect. In knowing an entity, nothing happens to it. It remains as it is. Apply your organ of perception and understand it. Self is not a formed object. It is the subjective presence. Employ your intelligence to know it. Self continues to shine. Intelligence must grasp its presence and qualities.
The ascetic Seer sees the Self as imperishable, transcending all grief. All that is required, is to know the Self as what it is. That knowledge itself is sufficient to meet all needs and demands of the seeker. No further learning, quest or pursuit is called for.
Self-realization is not an actional process. No protracted sādhanā, physical, mental or intellectual, is called for. What the seeker should do is to perceive the Self directly, withdrawing all actions and processes. Sit quietly. Close the eyes. Let all sensory activity cease.
Let mind along with intelligence be vibrant to perceive its own essence, Pure Consciousness. Let all modifications within the body come to a stop. What will be revealed then is the Self!
See what the great Shankara says in Viveka-cūḍāmaṇi (śloka 532 ): This Self is ever present. It shines when the right means are employed. The process does not depend upon place, time or even purity. Like eyes seeing the object in front in light, the inner faculty will comprehend the Self. It is a straight, instant outcome!
