The fool fails to attain peace, because he aspires for mind-conrol, regarding it (mind-conrol) as the means (for liberation). Whereas the wise, by knowing the Truth, is always peaceful at heart.
Entire spiritual pursuit is mind-based. It is the role of intelligence to know. Using it, know the spiritual truth well. With that knowledge gain all the reformation and refinement you need.
The crux of all spiritual efforts is freeing the mind of desires, by knowing the futility and redundancy of desiring. Tell the mind to desire the inmost imperishable, blissful Self. When all joy dwells within you, as your own innate nature, where is the need for seeking it? We have found without the least doubt, that sensory phenomena are unreal. It is a notional display the Self makes on itself, to help discrimination, by comparison and contrast.
The fools regard the world as real and grapple with their mind to get rid of desires for external objects. Control, by its very nature, causes tension. Mind is non-matter, you cannot lay hands on it.
If one pushes you and you resist it, it will make you the confluence of a powerful duel. Instead, keep away and be relaxed. Mind’s urges are to be eliminated, not controlled. Knowledge is the only means for it. Let intelligence dwell upon world’s illusoriness. Let the effect of this knowledge enrich and empower the mind.
Sage Vasishtha tells young prince Rama “Reflect upon the truth, abandon untruth.” Any intelligence will accept this. He adds “Why suffer in vain saying ‘I am bound’. You are the unbindable Self!” Spirituality is a full-fledged path of knowingness, knowledge!
