Swamiji emphasizes, drawing from various scriptures, that the inert body is animated and activated by the inner presence-the Self. The essence of Spirituality is to know that: “I am not the body; I am the Self.”

The all-pervading inner presence is that which perceives and knows all the modifications in the dream state, the state of void in sleep and which cognizes the entire visible world, employing the mind, senses etc. Spiritual pursuit is to arrive at this understanding and realization, by a process of introspection, and reasoning.

The message of Srimad Bhagavatam, often regarded as a devotional scripture, also is the same. It begins with the verse which says: “We contemplate upon the Supreme Truth, which is the source of the entire visible creation.” Towards the end, it instructs seekers to recognize that Supreme Presence as the causeless cause behind the origin, existence, and dissolution of all creation, an ever-present reality that remains constant through waking, dream, and deep sleep states, and as that which animates the body, mind, and the senses in wakefulness.

Swamiji exhorts all listeners to understand that we are all inseparably connected to the Supreme, by the glory of human birth. The focus of a seeker should always be the animating presence within one’s own being.
