263 – Q & A With Nutan Swamiji 3 I Swami Nirviseshananda Tirtha

Q & A session during a house satsang with Nutan Swamiji during 2025 USA visit.

Date: 26 June 2025
Venue: 5497 Grand Oak Blvd, Galena Ohio 43021

In this session, Swamiji explains that spirituality begins naturally when an inner enquiry arises. True spirituality begins when ritualistic religious practices end and sincere self-enquiry starts.

The Vedas have two parts: Karma Kanda, which focuses on rituals to discipline life and society, and Jnana Kanda (Upanishads), which reveals the highest knowledge. The Upanishads are not philosophies but direct expressions or revelations of truth discovered by the Rishis through self-enquiry.

The importance of rituals in society can never be underestimated. They help bridle the society and guide it in the auspicious path. Rituals help cultivate discipline, reduce lower tendencies, and expand the mind, but their deeper values—such as sharing, self-control, harmony, and expansion—can be practiced even without formal rituals today.

Describing the buddhi yoga of Bhagavad Gita, Swamiji emphasizes that a seeker must consciously transform one’s own personality--from a small constricted attitude to a universal dimension. Bhagavad Gita gives various concepts to accomplish this expansion and it is for each seeker to choose the most suitable approach. He should bring about a deliberate change in habits and practices, which would lead to the purification of the personality.
