064 – by Swami Nirviseshananda Tirtha – Import of Background Stories in Upanishads-2

1989 Views | 2 years ago

In this satsang, Nutan Swamiji shares with us the lofty Yajnavalkya-Maitreyi story from the Brihadaranyaka upanishad.

Maitreyi who was devoutly given to Spiritual Pursuit from early life, wished to be under the tutelage of the revered knower Yajnavalkya, recognizing well that there is no better teacher than him to take refuge under. Swamiji beautifully describes how Yajnavalkya's wife Katyayani, impressed by the genuine yearning and intention of Maitreyi, accepts her proposal to marry her husband and how the three of them lived in loving companionship, complementing each other in their spiritual maturation!

It is our great fortune to be the heirs of this wonderful cultural heritage of our land, which upholds universal love and acceptance, and which confers supreme place and importance to the ascetic life!

Swamiji will be discussing 'Voice of Upanishads'. The Global Satsang will be based on Kathopanishad and Mundakopanishad. | Live Satsangs with Spiritual Masters on Tuesday/Thursday/Saturday at 8 pm IST/10:30 am EDT/ 10:30 pm MST.
