Explaining the Mantras of Mandukya Upanishad, Swamiji emphasizes that its purpose is to help the seeker become free of clinging and attain the goal of life. In doing so, it presents some of the most profound insights of philosophy.

The Upanishad declares that the sacred monosyllable Om represents the unchanging, immortal, imperishable Truth. Om encompasses all that exists-- the past, present, and future--and also whatever is beyond time.

The Upanishad reveals that the entire object creation is Brahman; the Atma, the witnessing subject, is also Brahman.

The Consciousness is projected in three states—wakefulness, deep sleep and dream. The wakeful state is where we are aware of the external world and experience it through seven limbs and 19 mouths. The dream state pertains to the internal world, where pulsations are generated in the brain without any external stimulus. The sleep or Sushupti state is the state of dense consciousness, a state of oneness and bliss, where only the consciousness knows the stillness; there is nothing else.
Beyond these three is the fourth—Turīya, the fundamental state of pure Consciousness. Realizing this is the ultimate goal of the seeker.
