In this absorbing session, Swamiji continues to elaborate on Dhyana Yoga, basing his discussion on the Yoga Sadhana of Ashtanga Yoga and Aparokshanubhuti. This Satsang gives great clarity to listeners regarding the process and goal of meditation.

Asana: The practitioner must adopt a stable and comfortable posture. The mind should become effortless. It should be in a state of alertness without any mental strain. The mind must make no efforts to discover something different in meditation. It must fully surrender all the efforts and dissolve in the inner expanse.

Pranayama: One must take to disciplining the breath (Life force). By this, the breathing becomes slow, deep, rhythmic and there is an expansive feeling within. Pranayama is to tune the individual life force with the cosmic life force. It arises naturally from surrender to the Divine (Ishvara Pranidhana).

Pratyahara involves withdrawing senses from external stimuli. Pratyahara becomes natural when one starts feeling the joy of the Soul. The mind becomes calm, sky-like, yet alert.

Dharana is keeping the mind fixed on the Truth or Japa. It becomes completely fused with That. It becomes easy, natural, when one does it with Bhava and a strong yearning for the goal.

Dhyana is looking within, aiming at thoughtlessness or awareness of the Consciousness. When practiced with fervor, it culminates in Samadhi.

Samadhi, is the state where one gets engrossed in the pure, untainted Self. All vrittis (thoughts) get dissolved. It is not blankness, but awareness, freedom, and fullness.

Swamiji underlines the interconnectedness of the eight aspects of Ashtanga Yoga, where practicing one facilitates the others, all ultimately leading to Knowledge. He emphasizes the indispensability of wisdom (Viveka) and purity of one’s being (Bhava Shuddhi), in attaining the ultimate Self-Knowledge.

Swamiji will be discussing 'Voice of Upanishads'. The Global Satsang will be based on Kaivalya Upanishad. | Live Satsangs with Spiritual Masters on Tuesday/Thursday/Saturday at 8 pm IST/10:30 am EDT/ 10:30 pm MST.
