In this talk, Swamiji emphasizes the need for shifting one’s focus from the limited, individual identity to the universal identity. The seeker must shift his focus from the external world towards the ‘I’ within. This shift leads to getting merged in the Universal Consciousness and becoming immortal.

Kaivalya Upanishad says that the inner personality (mind and buddhi) must be rubbed with the Omkara mantra. By this knowledge churning, all the bondage is removed. One becomes free of all differential notions and everything becomes Consciousness alone. Just like fire burns off the fuel (wood), the fire of knowledge burns off all dross from our being and purifies our personality.

The ‘I’, through the association of the body-mind personality, becomes small and starts enjoying and suffering. It allows itself to be covered by Avidya (ignorance and delusion) and gets overwhelmed by desires, possessiveness, Raga-dvesha etc. In association with the body, it does everything. In the wakeful state, it goes on experiencing the enjoyments of life and attaining satisfaction.

Swamiji highlights the importance of the Omkara, which represents both the manifested and unmanifested aspects of Brahman. Omkara chanting is also a great aid to take our mind to the source, Consciousness.
