In Kaivalya Upanishad, Rishi Ashvalayana goes to Brahma (the creator) to be instructed on the Supreme Knowledge. He has the Vedic and Upanishadic Knowledge but he has not realized the Truth. He wants to be instructed on the rare, hidden and Supreme and transcendental knowledge by which all constrictions and limitations are removed.

In this Satsang, Swamiji discusses the question by this ardent and sincere seeker and Brahma’s response to him. This knowledge is to be gained or attained by: 1) Shradda- by giving the knowledge the Supreme position in life, 2) Bhakti- by having a one-pointed, dedicated, and devotional focus on it and by being emotionally associated with it. Bhakti will lead to Dhyana, where the mind will remain fixed on the goal. By taking to Dhyana Yoga, a seeker is led to the Ultimate fruition, Yoga.

The Supreme Knowledge cannot be attained by Karma (any activity—ritualistic or secular), power or strength of people/ family, or by wealth. It can be attained only by Tyaga (renunciation). Only when the doership and enjoyership is relinquished, when the differential notion is renounced, this knowledge can be had. Wise people strive to attain this and to get merged in the Supreme.

By living the truth of Vedanta, by being doubt-free about Vedanta and by becoming free of doership and enjoyership, a seeker identifies with the Supreme Truth. He cuts asunder all bondages and understands that he is immortal.
