In this Global Satsang, Poojya Swamiji beautifully discusses and explains what real Yajna (sacrifice) is! In a ceremonial Yajna, materials are offered in the fire, with the intention of achieving a certain result. In these Vedic sacrifices, strict disciplines and observances are followed.

But can the offering of external materials be enough? The whole world is material and inert and the mind is the one which activates everything. When one introspects like this, will one be satisfied with mere material offerings?

Slowly, by a process of introspection, knowing that the entire Universe is Brahman alone, a seeker’s sole attention and focus will be on the mind and intelligence. He will understand that the products of the mind and intelligence like memory, emotions, thoughts, knowledge, forgetfulness, anger, greed, delusion etc. can become offerings to the Lord.

A wise man will know that external sacrifices will not take him anywhere. Instead of collecting materials, igniting the fire and chanting mantras, he will sit in a place and introspect on the Supreme Truth. He will understand that it is the ‘I’ (Brahman) alone which is there in everything. All other things are subject to change and destruction. He will take to the right Yajna where the imperishable, eternal Presence is repeatedly contemplated upon and the idea of oneness is established. Trying to understand the subjective truth by introspection becomes the internal Yajna.
