Talk given by Poojya Swamiji during 14th Sreemad Bhagavata Tattva Sameeksha Satram
24 December 2015.
Srimad Bhagavatam trains seekers to distinguish truth from untruth. Its purpose is to elevate everybody so that they can install the Lord in their heart. In this discourse, Swamiji highlights three young boys from Srimad Bhagavatam who offer invaluable lessons to humanity.
Shringi, the son of Shameeka Maharishi, pronounced a rash curse on king Pareekshit for an act committed by the king in a moment of indiscretion. The ascetic sage immediately corrected his son, teaching him that one should not harbor any hurt, hatred or intolerance towards anyone, and should remain calm, practicing forgiveness and restraint.
Dhruva, denied his father’s love and affection, was guided by his mother to go to the forest and propitiate Lord Hari. Through his unswerving penance, Mahavishnu appeared before him. But later, Dhruva regretted seeking worldly rewards instead of the Eternal, recognizing that he had fallen into the trap of seeking impermanent worldly gains.
Prahlāda exemplifies unwavering devotion despite severe physical and mental persecution by his father. When offered a boon, Prahlada asked only for unswerving devotion and that no desire should ever sprout in his heart.
