Talk given by Poojya Swamiji at Banaras Hindu University on 06 March 2019 during a visit to Varanasi.

In this Satsang, through the Bhagavad Gita, Swamiji explains how one can attain stable-mindedness, which will lead to excellence in all spheres of life. To understand and attain stable-mindedness, we must enter the arena of the mind and understand the potential of the mind. Excellence is not an external outcome but an inner quality. When one has qualitative excellence, then all one’s actions and interactions will be excellent.

In the battlefield, seeing his dear kith and kin whom he had to fight, Arjuna crumbled. He confessed to Sri Krishna that he was suffering from narrow mindedness and confusion. He requested Krishna to guide him to the path of ever-lasting goodness. Sri Krishna started instructing him, so that Arjuna could attain stability of mind.

The Soul is eternal, unchanging, unaffected, undying, and it is the real identity of every human being. The human body is constantly changing; It passes through infancy, youth, middle age, old age and finally the body falls. It is the last visible transformation in the body. Death is not an extinction; it is a transition. The eternal Presence within or existence never becomes non-existent.

Sri Krishna gives a formula on how to live life. When one understands life, interactions, and interactional consequences, one becomes stable. Stability is attained when the intelligence starts introspecting on these. When there is a contact between the senses and the objects, instantly Sukha or Duhkha is produced in the mind. They are inevitable and ephemeral. One must have evenness and forbearance towards them.

The mind becomes stable when we analyze the mind and understand that both Sukha and duhkha arise from the same source. They should not destabilize or unsettle us. This is the key to excellence. In answer to a query, Swamiji gives two practices to understand the mind and deal with the mind.
