Session 04 of Nutan Swamiji during the Bhagavad Gita Retreat oragnised by CIRDNA during USA Jnana Yajna 2025.

Date: 14 June 2025
Venue: Fairfield Inn 15011, Newport Ave, Tustin CA 92780

#BhagavadGita #GitaChapter14 #InnerIntegration #GitaTeachings #YogaOfTheThreeGuṇas #SattvaRajasTamas #BhagavadGitaTalks #WisdomOfGita #nutanswamiji #enlightenedliving

In this session, Swamiji explains the state of freedom from the bondage of the three gunas—sattva, rajas, and tamas. Sattva binds through sanga (clinging) to sukha and knowledge; rajo guna binds through clinging to desire-motivated activity; and tamas binds through clinging to sleep, inertia and inattention.

A knower of Truth transcends the bondage of the three gunas. When purified, sattva expresses as effortless knowledge, rajas as spontaneous action in harmony with the Divine Will, and tamas as undisturbed peace and stability. Gunas will be operating in the knower also, but the binding effects of the gunas will not be there.

The Knower sees no agent of activities besides the three gunas. He is free of the sense of doership. He understands and realizes that the three gunas (operating in his body-mind personality) are interacting with the three gunas in nature and that he is the witness, the substratum on which the gunas are functioning. Endowed with this Knowledge, he remains unaffected.

Sharing illustrations about the moon reflected in a moving pond, the mirror, and the dream, Swamiji explains that the Consciousness is the unchanging substratum, the Witness. The entire universe—including one’s body-mind personality—appears in Consciousness. The Self is the changeless substratum upon which all experiences and changes arise and subside.

Shlokas chanted in the Satsang:
9:33 - न तस्य कार्यं करणं च विद्यते... श्चेताश्वतार उपनिशत् ६.८
17:51 - नान्यं गुणेभ्य: कर्तारं यदा द्रष्टानुपश्यति ... Bhagavad Gita 14.19
