Swamiji begins the Satsang discussing the revolutionary text — Bhagavad Gita. One may not be endowed with the qualities of a seeker (Sadhana Chatushtaya), nor be inclined towards meditation, but Bhagavad Gita offers a pursuit that can be practiced every moment of one’s life.
The goal of meditation is to know one’s own identity. This goal should extend to the interactional life also. Seekers must bring spirituality into all their activities and interactions. With an expansive mindset, the dimensions of the Atma should be established in the interactional life.
Instead of considering activities as a hindrance, one must use them as instruments for liberation, by transforming the mind and intelligence. For this purpose, Bhagavad Gita presents various models, which will lead us to universal expansion. The 14th chapter presents the three-guna model, which analyses the personality in terms of the three gunas and shows how to transcend the bondage created by them.
The three gunas, Sattva, rajas, and tamas, belong to Nature. They are the cause of bondage. Sattva guna is pure and of the nature of knowledge; it binds one by causing Sanga (delusional clinging) to happiness and knowledge. Rajo guna is of the nature of desire and passion. Arising from greed and clinging, it binds one through clinging to activity. Tamo guna is born of ignorance. Deluding the human, it binds us by inattention, laziness, and sleep.
