Gurupoornima 2024 - Discourse based on Bhagavad Gita & Srimad Bhagavatam

#bhagavadgita #srimadbhagavatam

In this concluding talk of the series, Ma continues to discuss the characteristics and qualities of a devotee. She reiterates that the consistent practice of a seeker must be to remain connected to the Self/God through all speech, thoughts, activities, and interactions. Living in the world made by God, reminding himself that God is enlivening the body, thoughts, speech and actions, he must make an effort to connect everything to him.

Some people have all-fold devotion to the Lord but others find it easy to contemplate on the formless, imperishable, invisible reality (the Self). Krishna gives an assurance that the sadhakas given to contemplation on the formless also reach the same Supreme as do the others given to devotion. But whether one is worshipping God or contemplating on the imperishable, one must have sensory restraint, have equal vision and they must be forever dedicated to serving humanity.

In the 18 th chapter, Sri Krishna again elucidates on the qualities that a seeker must cultivate. He must have sensory and mental restraint, strive to rise above raga-dvesha, have preference for solitude and moderation in food, be contemplative, and have dispassion. He must abandon ahankara, arrogance, desires, and anger. Being free of possessiveness, he should be calm. Such a seeker is fit to become Brahman. Such a person becomes cheerful, free of grief and expectation, has an equal vision towards all beings and attains Paraa Bhakti (Supreme devotion).

Ma concludes by referring to Srimad Bhagavatam which says that the supreme devotee is one who sees the self in all creatures and sees all creatures as grounded in the Lord, the soul of all beings. Ma urges listeners to introspect more, assimilate the knowledge and go forward in the path to Self-realization.
