This is the 5th part of a 6 Day series of Jamshedpur Jnana Yajna 2023 talks held at Centre For Inner Resources Development, Jamshedpur, India.
In this talk, Swamiji speaks about the intensification of spiritual growth through exposure to deep spiritual thoughts. Introspection is also crucial for a seeker, alongside exposure to spiritual teachings. Only by introspection, all the spiritual concepts heard or read become one’s own.
One must also constantly assess the extent of one’s own spiritual growth. Spiritual growth is marked by a reduction in the mind's constrictions and an expansion and loftiness of the mind.
Drawing from the Bhagavad Gita, where Krishna addresses Arjuna's grief, Swamiji discusses the applicational nature of the spiritual teachings. Sri Krishna gives the Upanishadic message to strengthen and empower the mind of Arjuna in the battlefield. He explains that within the mortal body there is the immortal enlivening presence. It is eternally present and never ceases to exist. A wise man never becomes deluded about death.
Sri Krishna also gives a formula on how to lead a happy and fulfilled life. Human life involves interactions between the senses and the external world. These interactions produce only Sukha (Happiness) and Duhkha (unhappiness), which are inevitable. The key to spiritual growth lies in forbearing them with equanimity. A person who is able to forbear them without getting affected is fit for liberation. Swamiji urges all to expand the mind through introspection and by being equal to pleasure and pain, become masters of the world.
