Gurupoornima Rereat Sessions by Ma Gurupriya
In this session, quoting from the Bhagavad Gita, Ma says that man devotes his life to gratifying his desires and believes that there is no other purpose of life. He is tied by many chains of desire and expectation and resorts to planning for and amassing wealth. Blinded by ignorance and delusion, having numerous desires, he creates a living hell for himself. He forgets that sensory pleasures will only lead to misery.
When man has desires and he is attached to the objects of enjoyment and family, the family becomes a prison for him and it becomes impossible for him to get rid of the worldliness. Seated in his heart, desires completely blind and delude him. He is constantly assailed by desire for name, fame, progeny, wealth, prestige etc., and he does not make any attempt to be released from this prison.
Introspecting and understanding that world enjoyments are transitory, a seeker must cultivate dispassion. Bhagavad Gita says that a seeker must repeatedly introspect over the ills of the world and cultivate dispassion. Not being passionate about sensory objects, he must clearly see the torment associated with birth, death, old age, disease etc. The conviction that all worldly objects and pleasures are insignificant and transitory is Vairagya. Dispassion to sensory objects is indispensable for a spiritual seeker.
