Arjuna felt that the Yoga imparted by Krishna was not easy to practice because the mind is desultory. He wanted to know the plight of a seeker who, without attaining Yogic fruition, leaves the body. To appease the confused Arjuna, Krishna replied that such a seeker would be reborn in a resourceful and virtuous family or in a family of Yogis, where he can practice the Yoga and attain fruition.
In this Satsang, Swamiji critically analyzes the relevance of such a question by Arjuna. Was it necessary for him to ask this, when Krishna had already explained in Saankhya Yoga about the imperishable, unborn, eternal Soul? It is the body which is born and dies, but the Soul is eternal. Bhagavad Gita repeatedly emphasizes that buddhi yoga practice is never in vain- even a small measure of this practice bestows great benefits.
Sri Krishna tells Arjuna about the Brahma Vidya lineage (4.1), where he had imparted the Supreme knowledge to Vivasvaan. He adds that he has taken many births for the protection of Dharma. Why then does Krishna speak about many births after speaking about the imperishable Self? Swamiji explains that Krishna realized the same Self which permeates all Paanchabhautik bodies. Across all births, the substratum remains the same imperishable Self. By identifying with the Self-- the inner presence-- Krishna could confidently declare that he had imparted the knowledge in the ancient times also.
