In this talk, Ma speaks about what true devotion is. Quoting verses from Srimad Bhagavatam, she explains the state of a true devotee and how one can live in the world with a constant remembrance of God. Devotion arises in man when the mind repeatedly thinks and hears about the Supreme Lord. Once Bhakti is cultivated, it removes all grief, delusion, and fear.

A supreme devotee has complete reliance on the Lord. He has tied the holy feet of the Lord with the cord of love and imprisoned the Lord in his heart. The devotee also interacts with the objects of the world, but he neither clings to objective situations, nor does he get repelled by them. He maintains an equal vision to all the duality of the world.

A seeker must yearn to become a devotee who is dear to the Lord. Just like fledglings in the nest yearn for their mother to come and feed them, just like a calf yearns for its mother’s udder, just like a chaste lady waits for the return of her husband, a devotee must yearn for the Lord.

A devotee who is free of possessiveness, who has unflinching love for his Lord, who is peaceful, noble, desireless and helpful to everyone, such a devotee enjoys eternal bliss. Knowing that everything in the world is the Lord alone, he bows down in reverence before everything.

Bhakti is easily attainable in the association of holy people. Their company removes all clinging and desires from the minds of seekers. So, a seeker must approach a Guru, who has taken wholesome refuge in Brahman.
