In this Satsang, Swamiji emphasizes that the spiritual pursuit is a mento-intellectual pursuit and it finally leads us to the Supreme, exalted state. Attaining this state, one does not get shaken by the greatest of calamities. The Supreme state is a state where one will be untouched, unaffected by the
recurring happiness or misery. A seeker must strive to attain this inner transcendental state.
Explaining the process of meditation, Bhagavad Gita says that the meditation practitioner must restrain the senses and the mind and free the mind of thoughts, imaginations, desires etc. With the help of the intelligence and willpower, he must withdraw within. Regulating the outgoing mind, he must focus on the Self. Then he must make the mind free of all thoughts, become still.
During this inward process, whenever the mind issues forth towards the external objects, one must dissuade the mind and bring it back to the source within. By the practice of withdrawal and being free of thoughts, the mind becomes peaceful. Being free of all desires, such a Yogi attains great happiness, which arises from the Supreme Brahman.
Our scriptures state that this kind of self-seatedness is not limited to only meditational Samadhi. It can be extended to the wakeful, interactive hours as well. When the body-identification (feeling that ‘I am the body’) goes, by the knowledge of the all-pervading presence, the mind becomes blissful. Such a mind is forever connected to the Self.
That is the state of a knower of Truth. Swamiji says that such knowers move around freely in the world, reveling in the scriptural statements and their essence, being contented with whatever they have. Such fortunate people revel in the bliss of knowledge, not in material possessions.
