230 – Leveraging the Eternal Wisdom of Bhagavad Gita – 02 I Swami Nirviseshananda Tirtha

Talk givenby Nutan Swamiji during an Interactional Worshop at Frying Pan Community Hall, Farm Park, VA on 25 September 2022 during USA Sadhana Shibiram 2022

In this Satsang, Swamiji emphasizes that excellence is a quality of the mind. A seeker must be able to do all work excellently, irrespective of the situation. Excellence eludes us only because the mind is haunted by desires, ambition, fear, or anxiety. If the mind can remain cheerful, free of selfishness, then one can attain excellence in any field.

The fundamental problem of life is that we are born with a feeling of insufficiency (lack of fulfilment) and delusion. We feel that something from the world will make us happy and remove the insufficiency. We are gripped by desires and when the desires are unfulfilled, we become disturbed. Even when any desire is fulfilled, the mind is in fear of losing it or it moves on to another desire. So, the mind is again disturbed. The mind is peaceful and happy only by the elimination of desires, and not by fulfilment of desires.

How to eliminate desires? Bhagavad Gita says that the senses, mind, and the intelligence are the seats of desire. Knowing that the mind is more powerful than the senses, the intelligence is more powerful than the mind and that the Self is still more superior, the seeker must ensure that his mind is guided by the intelligence and the intelligence is guided and directed by the Self.

We normally do all work motivated by desires. But the seeker must understand that the best output is generated only when work is done without desires and selfishness. He must do all work excellently, without selfishness, without expectations, with the qualities he has, with the skillset he has and to fulfil the needs of the society.
