Commentary

Duryodhana had rejoiced at the ‘foolishness’ of Arjuna in having selected the weaponless Krishna in preference to the huge army of Dwaraka, when both of them had gone to Dwaraka seeking Krishna’s support for the impending war. But it was Krishna who readily responded to Bheeshma’s war call, finding Dhrishtadyumna not responding.

How well dharma protects the Pandava army is evident everywhere. It is solely Krishna’s timely forethought, prudence and insight that led Pandavas to win the war.

Following Krishna, Pandavas and all others on their side blew their conches. The collective sound inflicted untold terror in the hearts of Duryodhana’s army. Why so, can well be imagined! Another subtle grace of Dharmakshetra, which while encouraging Kauravas to indulge in violations, was persuading Yudhishthira’s army to adhere to dharmic ways, despite all hazards.
