In this Talk, Swamiji describes how the recitation of religious, spirituo-philosophical verses are a great austerity which brings about a total personality transformation.

The daily chantings called as Parayanam of Sanskrit verses from the Epics like Ramayana and Mahabharata, the Bhagavad Gita, Upanishads, Brahma Sutras, Vishnu Sahasranama and several such shastras bring about oral, mento-intellectual and total personality transformation when done with all piety and sublimity. This tapasya of regular religio-spiritual chantings, when understood with their messages and applied, brings about immense changes in the mind and intelligence as well as in all attitudes of the personality. There is a great peace, delight and fulfillment in practicing this austerity of recitation. Memorizing the stotras and verses improves the memory and even prevents diseases like dementia.
