Commentary

How unknowingly fateful is Duryodhana’s remark that his leaders are out to lay down their lives for his sake! It portends that they all would only die, not winning the war in any case.

The voice of Truth is irrepressible. Duryodhana intends to pride over the superiority and commitment of his heroes. But his heart murmurs a different note!

He refers to many other skilled fighters, adept in using manifold weapons, including rare missiles. He claims all are dedicated to him, ready to abandon their lives, meaning not to destroy the enemies and win the battle. By siding him, he virtually admits, they have verily courted death.

By saying this, is not Duryodhana, unconsciously though, admitting that despite many heroes, with Grandfather and Teacher also on his side, he is not likely to win the war? It will be a mere self-extinction!
