Before the teacher, how one speaks is very important. Any student will behave with humility and regard, evoking the best of fondness and respect.

But here Duryodhana strikes a perilous contrast. He speaks with arrogance, as if to warn his teacher of a danger he (the teacher) has to safeguard against. Instead of seeking instruction, he begins to advise the teacher.

How Kurukshetra subtly exercises its dharmic influence, leading Duryodhana to misbehave and weaken his unrighteous cause, can well be discerned. Vice escalates, weakens its cause and destroys itself.

“Look, O Teacher, at the army your own wise disciple has arrayed.” Dhrishtadyumna, the Commander-in-Chief of Pandava army, was born to kill Drona. Duryodhana insinuatingly brings this fact to Drona’s attention. Was he taunting Drona to be on guard of himself, rather than leading the army?
