In life we suffer only because of ignorance of our own identity; We feel that we are the small, limited, constricted body-mind personality. In this Satsang, Swamiji delves on how to deal with this ignorance and become happy? By the regular practice of studying, meditation, contemplation, and slowly absorbing the knowledge the ignorance is removed. When the ignorance is removed, we get back the remembrance of our own real identity.
In sleep, we forget the body, mind, intelligence, and the world. In Samadhi (the fruition of meditation), the five senses, mind, and intelligence are not functioning. It is a fulfilled state of the mind, where one does not want anything. Both sleep and Samadhi are calm and peaceful states.
But one starts becoming unhappy when the world comes in. Why? That is because of our attitude to the world. It gives rise to torment and grief and we lose our happiness. The solution is to change our attitude towards the world, dissolve raga-dvesha (attraction and repulsion), clinging, and the feeling of ‘me’ and ‘mine.’ We must apply the experience of Samadhi (the calm and bliss) in the wakeful and interactional life. By that, the wakeful life becomes transformed and one becomes fulfilled.
Even if one does not experience bliss in meditation, a seeker can transform his thoughts and make them noble, benevolent, loving. By this, the mind becomes calm, pure, self-seated and joyful. The Sadhana is to generate love (from within) for everybody, instead of looking for love from others. By this, the mind becomes expansive and free.
Swamiji emphasizes that ‘Surrender’ is the ultimate sukha. It takes the mind to the most efficient and blissful state. In this, the mind accepts and understands that the whole of nature is functioning in its own manner. Being a product of nature, the body-mind personality also functions naturally. But ‘I’, the Self, is never affected by anything happening in nature; I am only the witness.
