Day 4 of 5-Day lecture series by Poojya Swamiji based on Bhagavad Gita during 58th Jamshedpur Jnana Yajna.
19 November 2024
CIRD Jamshedpur
In this Satsang, Swamiji reiterates that conflicts in life may appear to be due to various external factors, but the conflicts are experienced in the mind. When the mind is in conflict, the intelligence must understand the situation, analyze it and find a solution for it. Defining life, Bhagavad Gits shows us how life situations can be dealt with by the intelligence. It teaches us how we can evenize all world impacts by discrimination and introspection.
There is no possibility of getting permanent joy from external objects. They are ephemeral and can never give us joy and contentment. Then, what is the source of permanent joy? To find permanent joy, a seeker must focus on the Self.
All Upanishads describe the One Brahman, the Consciousness. It is all-pervading, invisible, ungraspable, the Supreme, auspicious, non-dual. This Consciousness is to be known within. How to know it? Brahman is attained when, in meditation, the mind does not get lost, it is not distracted by various thoughts, when it does not move or vibrate at all. When the mind gets distracted with thoughts, the practitioner must strive to quieten the mind.
In the state of wakefulness also, the mind and intelligence must be quietened. The mind must be freed of anger, desires, jealousy, ambition etc. The seeker must live and interact in the world, accepting all interactional impacts, allowing them to come and go. Bhagavad Gita says that such a person is peaceful and contented and his intelligence is unshakeable. He is free of all desires and he is contented, by his own inner presence.
Swamiji emphasizes that this state bestows contentment and peace. The world cannot give us joy and fulfillment; Contentment comes only from the mind. The seeker, through a diligent pursuit, must attain this state.
