Gurupoornima Retreat Sessions by Poojya Swamiji on Vivekachoodamani
Adi Shankaracharya, in his last work Vivekachudamani, speaks about the Supreme knowledge and the state of a Jeevan Mukta (a liberated person).
A liberated man is also led and motivated by latent tendencies, and he seems to be living and moving about like a worldly person. He also appears to be indulging in objects, but his mind, intelligence and ego are free and flexible. Being liberated, his insight and vision is different. He has attained spiritual perfection and because of this, he allows the course of embodiment to continue. His position is that of a silent witness. Like the pivot of a wheel, he is free from all kinds of imaginations, agitations, involvement, and partiality.
Shankaracharya presents the pinnacle of non-dual philosophy when he says that there is no evolution or dissolution, no bondage, no seeker of liberation and no liberated person. It is all the same inner presence, which is the witness of bondage and liberation.
In the end, addressing the weary travelers of the world, Shankaracharya says that the Supreme Brahman is the Jiva that animates the body. A seeker must turn his gaze inward and find the spiritual treasure within, which bestows redemption.
In conclusion, Swamiji explains three verses from Shankaracharya’s three other works which present the Supreme Truth and guides the seeker in his introspection.
