In this Satsang, Swamiji discusses the process of meditation, as discussed in the sixth chapter of the Bhagavad Gita. Sri Krishna first speaks about the physical aspects, like the posture, the seat, the environment etc. But Bhagavad Gita, being a Yoga Shastra, relates meditation solely to the mind and the intelligence of the practitioner.
In meditation, a seeker must strive for the inner Yoga, being placid, free of all fear, with a restrained and integrated personality, being devoted to the teacher. Such a striving Sadhaka attains Nirvana, freedom from the shackles of the mind and intelligence, and attains supreme peace.
The Yoga or union is accomplished by those who are given to the discipline of moderation. A spiritual practitioner must neither eat excessively nor starve and fast. He must not sleep for unduly long periods and also not remain wakeful for too long.
India had perfected the science of eating, sleeping, drinking water etc. It was understood that hunger is to be considered a disease, which is to be treated by a moderate consumption of good, nutritious, fresh food. Ancient thinkers arrived at a clear understanding about the right consumption of water, what kind of food is good for the body, how one must consume food etc.
A seeker who practices moderation in food and activities, will be free of all misery. The entire purpose of meditation is to regulate, reform and stabilize the mind. When the mind is restrained, the mind remains seated in the Self. In that state, there are no desires and such a person is well-integrated.
In this session, Swamiji also speaks about the war situation between India and its neighbor. War means co-destruction and no-war leads to co-existence. Complimenting both countries on the ceasefire announcement, he urges all global leaders to work towards ending terrorism in the world.
